Educational Support Office
The Educational Support Office (ESO) is Royal Holloway's central office for co-ordinating the support for students with additional learning needs, including those who need extra Study Skills support and those with disabilities, including:
- Specific learning difficulties e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia
- Mobility difficulties
- Special psychological needs
- Medical conditions
- Sensory impairments e.g. those with hearing loss and who are partially sighted
We provide support and advice for staff too, including information on disability awareness, teaching students with special educational needs and disability legislation
We work closely with students to offer confidential advice and support throughout their time at Royal Holloway. The Educational Support Officers are available to meet with students who want to register, ask questions, or raise a concern.
We provide three types of support for students:
- Academic - including liaising with Academic departments, special
examination arrangements, large group Study
Skills seminars.
Each academic department has an ESO Network Member who liaises closely with the ESO and co-ordinates the support for students from the departmental perspective. These ESO Network Members are a point of contact for the students, other staff within the department and for the ESO staff. - Personal - including one-to-one tutoring, arranging support workers, mentors, priority to College accommodation, library support, advice on using the other Student Services
- Financial - including advice on Disabled Students' Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and Access to Learning Funds (home students) and the International Students Disability Support Grant (overseas students)
