1. The College is headed by an Acting Principal, Professor Rob Kemp, appointed by the Council as the chief academic and administrative officer.

A new Principal, Professor Paul Layzell has been appointed and will take up office in August 2010.

 

2. There are two Vice-Principals, directly supporting the Principal with specific responsibilities for the following areas of work:

 

(i) Professor Geoff Ward - Vice-Principal, planning and resources

(ii) Professor Adam Tickell - Vice-Principal, research, enterprise and communications

 

  3. The College has three faculties: Arts, History & Social Sciences, and Science. Each faculty is headed by a Dean, who is appointed by the Council from the academic staff in the faculty. The Deans are supported by Deputy Deans and there is an Assistant Registrar for each faculty.
  4. There are 18 academic departments, grouped into the three faculties, as follows:

The Heads of Department are appointed by the Acting Principal, and they report to the Dean of their Faculty.

  5. The Acting Principal and Vice-Principals are assisted by Deans with functional responsibilities.
  There is also a Dean of the Graduate School, Dr Gary Nichols, who supports the development of postgraduate work.

  7. Katie Kerr, College Secretary and Head of Governance, is responsible for supporting the work of the College Council.
  8. The Acting Principal, Vice-Principals, and Deans of Faculty constitute the Principal's Briefing Group, which supports the Acting Principal with the day-to-day operation of the College.
  Academic Departments have a range of recognised roles to ensure that there is consistent management and smooth running of core functions across the College. In smaller departments some of these roles may be combined. They include:
